THE LEMON TREE
a six-week book group: October 11, 18, 25; November 1, 8, 15
7:00-8:30 p.m. on Zoom

Does the Holy Land conflict leave you concerned and confused? Not sure of the issues facing people currently living in the area that Christians, Jews, and Muslims all consider holy? Join us for a powerful and empathetic look into the millennia-old struggle of two peoples, Palestinians and Israelis, as they struggle to live on contested ground.

We will meet Bashir Khairi and Dalia Eshkenazi Landau on the stoop of a house with a beloved lemon tree in the yard. They develop a rare friendship, forged in the aftermath of war and tested over the next half-century in ways none of us could imagine. Through their instructive and heartbreaking relationship, we will be allowed to expand our understanding of the issues surrounding the Holy Land conflict. We’ll have food for thought long after the book has ended.

The Lemon Tree: An Arab, A Jew and the Heart of the Middle East by Sandy Tolanis is available for online purchase or from your local library. RSVP by October 2 to receive the reading schedule in time to prepare for our first discussion. Let Mary Aronen or Jim Donahe know all your questions.
