Our meeting as always began with our short service taken by Susan and the reading
by Margaret.
As today was Shrove Tuesday, sometimes known as Pancake Tuesday, we were given a very interesting talk by Mavis about the origins of the celebration of pancake day. Going back many generations, it is thought it was a way of using up sweet thing’s before Ash Wednesday and the beginning of Lent. Pancake races are held in some areas. The legend is said to be the re-enactment of the the occasion when a women left cooking her pancakes to the last minute and took her pan with her to church, tossing her pancake all the way.
At the end of the talk, we all enjoyed pancakes, but not tossed. The meeting closed at approximately 9 o'clock.
Our next meeting will be on Tuesday 12th March.
