🗣️ Dunblane Cathedral Handbell Ensembles present their annual Carols and Carillons Christmas Concert in Dunblane Cathedral on Sunday 8 December at 7.30pm.
🎄 Enjoy Christmas music from through the ages from traditional carols to modern festive music performed on the largest range of handbells in Scotland.
🎵 From the youngest primary school-aged children you’ll hear Josh Groban’s hit “Believe” from the animated movie “Polar Express, and the hauntingly beautiful “Once upon a December” from the animated musical historical fantasy film “Anastasia”. You’ll marvel at the dexterity of a teenage handbell solo musician performing the French carol "Il est né, le divin Enfant". Then you’ll wonder “how do they do that?” when the small 4-in-hand ensemble perform modern classics “Mary’s Boy Child” and “Calypso Carol” while each ringer holds multiple handbells. The intergenerational groups for teens and adults will perform everything from a very topical Ukrainian “Carol of the Bells”, and a sixteenth century Scottish carol “Baloo Lammy”, to a very rhythmic version with much malleting of “Go tell it on the mountain”, an upbeat rendition of “Good King Wenceslas” and another modern classic “It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year.” And there will be a chance to join in the fun with some audience participation with synchronised hand percussion in “Up on the housetop”. Traditional favourites will also include “O Christmas Tree”, “Gloucestershire Wassail”, “We wish you a merry Christmas”, “Pat-a-pan” and “We three kings”. Surely something there for all ages!
🔔Dunblane Cathedral Handbell Ensembles have an international reputation and have appeared many times on television. Handbells are one of the world's oldest instruments - the handbells used today are sophisticated precision musical instruments which produce a beautifully rich sound. And handbells are very much a visual instrument too as you can enjoy the synchronised movement of the glistening handbells as they make music while swishing through the air!
🎅 We look forward to welcoming you to our concert of Christmas music and sharing some festive cheer with you! And at the end of the concert there will be warm Christmas mince-pies and tea/coffee
