Mike Nolan is well known locally as organist and pianist. He has a genius for bringing silent films to life with his atmospheric and dramatic improvisation, whether it’s the compelling films about St. Kilda, the recreation of Dunblane’s social history or the buffoonery of Laurel and Hardy. This should be a highlight in January’s gloom.
‘For Heaven’s Sake’ (1926); produced by and starring the hilariously hapless Harold Lloyd. ‘A rare chance to see this comedy classic by one of the great American film comedians of the silent era on the big screen. Introduced and accompanied by a live improvised piano score by Dunblane’s own Mike Nolan, who has accompanied silent films across the UK for over thirty years. The film's highlights include much traffic chaos, hymn singing by petty criminals and indigestible cakes.’ Refreshments, hopefully not indigestible, will be served before the screening.
